Getting to Blue Bay from the airport and around Mauritius

Choose the public beach, your accommodation or a confirmed boat meeting point before arranging transport.

Start with a precise destination

Blue Bay is a place, not one universal pickup point. Give your driver the public beach name, the accommodation address or the location supplied by your boat operator. If a trip departs elsewhere along the southeast coast, do not replace its instructions with a generic Blue Bay map pin. Save the address and a contact number before travelling, especially if you will arrive without mobile data.

From SSR International Airport by taxi

The airport’s published January 2026 taxi list shows Rs 1,000 for Blue Bay. It is a reference fare, not a personalised quote: the same document allows supplements for matters such as night travel, waiting, oversized luggage and extra stops, and states a 10% card-payment addition. Confirm the complete price for your address and group. ATOL locates the airport taxi counter in the arrivals tour-operators hall, opposite the customs exit.

Using the bus via Mahébourg

ATOL lists airport services 09, 10 and 198 connecting with Mahébourg. The NLTA route document identifies route 46 between Mahébourg bus station and Blue Bay public beach via Pointe d’Esny. These are useful route references, not a guaranteed connection. Establish the current onward departure and return before committing to a timed boat booking. Ask where to change and allow for waiting as well as travel.

Driving from another part of Mauritius

Use the current road route to the actual address and check it before setting out. Mauritius drives on the left. A cross-island journey should include time for traffic, finding the beach approach and parking, rather than relying on a map’s quickest estimate. For an outing with several stops, compare the complete loop with returning to your accommodation between each activity.

Make the return part of the plan

For a taxi, agree whether it waits or returns at an arranged time, and whether that is included in the quote. For a bus, verify the return locally while you still have alternatives. After a boat outing, allow time to collect belongings and change before a transfer. If you have a flight, work backwards from your airline’s required airport-arrival time, not from the distance shown on the map.

Questions before you go

Is there one direct airport bus to every Blue Bay address?

Do not assume that. Confirm the current route and any change at Mahébourg, then check the final walk or transfer.

Does Rs 1,000 cover every airport taxi journey to Blue Bay?

No. It is the published 2026 reference fare; confirm supplements, vehicle needs and the final destination before travelling.

Should I use the beach pin for a boat trip?

Only when the operator confirms that this is the meeting point. Some southeast outings depart from a different location.
