Pointe Jérôme and your boat departure

Pointe Jérôme is a mainland departure area near Mahébourg. It is particularly useful to recognise when booking Île aux Aigrettes, because a place name, a general jetty and your actual check-in point are not always the same thing.

Separate the mainland meeting point from the island

A booking for Île aux Aigrettes involves reaching a mainland departure point before any boat crossing. The Mauritian Wildlife Foundation identifies its visitor centre and booking office at Pointe Jérôme. Use the location provided in your confirmation rather than asking a driver to take you to the island. That simple distinction avoids starting the day at a beach with no connection to your reservation.

Ask for a pin and a check-in instruction

Before leaving your accommodation, save the exact map pin, the name of the desk or representative and the requested arrival time. Ask whether the stated time is check-in or boat departure. Give the same information to your driver. A screenshot of the confirmation is useful when mobile reception or battery life is inconvenient, but keep the operator’s contact number available too.

Know which outing you have booked

The reserve visit, a lagoon sightseeing trip and a longer excursion towards other islands are different products. The name Pointe Jérôme does not establish what is included. Check the itinerary, landing permission, guide, equipment and return point. A boat passing an island does not necessarily stop there, and a photo stop offshore is not equivalent to admission to the reserve.

Prepare for both the boat and the land portion

Read the instructions for the activity after the crossing, not only the boat ride. A reserve visit may involve walking, while another outing may keep you aboard for longer. Ask about steps, boarding help, footwear, shade and luggage before booking if they affect your comfort. Pack only what you can manage through boarding and keep essentials in a small protected bag.

Keep the return as clear as the departure

Confirm whether the outing returns to the same point and whether the finish time is an estimate. A driver waiting on the mainland needs a workable update method if conditions change the trip. Avoid attaching a flight transfer or another non-refundable activity to the earliest advertised return. There is more value in enjoying the crossing than watching the clock throughout it.

Use an arrival buffer for practical tasks

Leave time to find the desk, present the booking and follow the staff briefing. Do not plan to solve every missing detail at the jetty while the boat is preparing to leave. If the trip changes, contact the organiser through the channel on your confirmation. The presence of other boats nearby does not mean they can honour your booking or replace the same programme.

Questions before you go

Is Pointe Jérôme the same as Blue Bay beach?

No. Use the exact departure address on your booking rather than treating the two coastal place names as interchangeable.

Does every boat from this area visit Île aux Aigrettes?

No. Check whether your booking includes the reserve visit and its admission arrangements.

Can I turn up without a reservation?

Ask the organiser first. A departure point is not proof of a spare place, a scheduled boat or permission to land.
